Witches Walk and Thriller Dance
To finish up the half term with an active event, the children of Cross School completed a witches walk around the yard and a participated in a whole school thriller dance lead by the active committee.

Active Slogan 2023-2024
Congratulations to our active slogan winner Ciara Lynch. Our new slogan for this year is: ALL RISE LET'S EXERCISE!
The children of Crossreagh National School were all asked to come up with a catchy slogan and wrote a small paragraph about why they wanted to be on the active committee. Two children were then chosen from 2nd to 6th class to make up our "Active Flag Committee".
2020-2021
Keep an eye on our "Active Flag Notice Board" for all our up to date information

BUSY ACTIVE COMMITTEE
We have two playground breaks 11:00 to 11:10 and 12:45 to 1:15. On a Tuesday and Thursday (during first break) our Active Committee take on the role as playground leaders. They organise games for children in the lower classes to play in the cage and on the playground.
Everyone is thoroughly enjoying the activities and games!!!

ACTIVE BREAKS
From 11th November to 6th December we committed to taking an Active Break every day. We chose between a running break/ dancing break or exercise break. After the first week it was very evident the running break was a great hit in Cross and it is something we will continue to do in each classroom.

Teachers have incorporated physical activity breaks during the day to improve concentration and well being.

We are adopting a whole school approach to physical activity both inside and outside of school. We have planned active social events throughout the school year. We will keep you posted on these dates via text.
Our first event was a Halloween Catwalk/ Disco. The children thoroughly enjoyed showcasing their costumes and moving to some spooky Halloween music.

FESTIVE FITNESS
Before we parted ways for the Christmas Holidays all the children took part in Festive Fitness. We had 12 different exercises to do against the clock and beat the teachers. Great fun was had by all with a bit of healthy competition mixed in.

Here at Crossreagh National School we have been completing our “Run a day” initiative. We started on the 12th October and will continue for 4 weeks. The children have thoroughly enjoyed it and are improving all the time. Check out all the different destinations We have reached around Ireland.

In conjunction with The Green schoool's Flag the whole school took part in a Walk For Water. Each class walked laps of the football pitch carrying 2 litres of water to represent those who walk at least 6km in other parts of the world to get water from a well.

In March 2020 we launched our ACTIVE SCHOOL WALKWAY but due to lockdown classes haven't been able to avail of it during break times. I am hopefully classes will use this when teaching the orienteering strand.

In September 2021 we set up a new active committee to organise and play games in the 5th and 6th yard area. The games are in full swing and enjoyed by all.
