Crossreagh NS Shines at the Schools Cross Country – 15th October 2025
It was a fantastic day of running, determination, and school spirit as Crossreagh NS took part in this year’s Cross Country Schools Race on 15th October 2025. With over 1500 runners and around 250 competing in each of the six categories, the event was packed with excitement and strong performances across the board.

A special congratulations goes to Shay Carolan, who ran a superb race to finish 5th in the Junior Boys 600m, and to the Junior Boys team, who claimed an impressive 3rd place overall in the team event.
Every Crossreagh NS runner showed great determination and sportsmanship throughout the day — a true credit to the school. Well done to all our athletes for representing Crossreagh NS with pride!

5th and 6th class begin the year with Cycling workshop

Our 5th and 6th Class pupils kicked off the school year with an exciting cycling workshop! 🚴♂️🚴♀️
The children have the opportunity to develop their cycling skills, learn about road safety, and gain confidence on their bikes. It is a fantastic, active start to the term.

Handball

Congratulations to these two 5th class boys who represented Cross school at the Cumann na mBunscoil handball competition in Kingscourt. This was our first time entering this competition and I hope it wont be our last!
Super Success for East Cavan Eagles Basketball team
Thank you to some of the ladies from the East Cavan Eagles Basketball Team who came to Cross to share their Success. This team won both the League and National Cup. They continue to have an unbeaten streak of 15 games.

Cumann na mBunscol Art and Poem Winners
Well done to Joe, Alessia, Anna, Aoife and Ellen who all came in 1st place for the Cumann na mBunscol Poetry and Art competition.

Cumann na mBunscol Winners
We are so proud of our Girls Football team. They battled against Arva in Breffni Park and brought home the cup. The first girls football team to ever do so in Cross N.S.
Congratulations to Áine Doughty who was awarded 'Player of the Match' and to Hannah O'Gorman, our team captain, who spoke so eloquently as she raised the cup. Each and every one of the girls played their part in the match showing such determination and drive. They were a true inspiration to us all.
A huge thank you to our coaches Ms Hynds and Ms Gilsenan for training the team and to our sponsors Ardlow Iron Works and McNally Pharmacies. Thanks also to you the parents for supporting the children on this journey.

Bike Week 2024

In partnership with the Green schools, the children participated in Bike week with many cycling to school from Monday 11th May to 19th May 2024.
Achievements
Well done to the following students for their outstanding achievements in their extra curricular activities in; Basketball, GAA and Chess. We are so proud of all you, Well Done!!

Delighted with our yard equipment

The School Active Committee were delighted with the delivery of PE and yard equipment we received today. The Cross Community Group, TP Reilly and our Parents Association applied for a grant that financed all the lovely playground and yard resources. The pupils of Cross N.S. will have lots of fun in the sun.
Ulster Semi-Final
Well done to Sionnach Mc Kenna who represented Cross School and played in the half time games at the Ulster Semi-Final.

Mullagh Sports Centre
Mullagh sports centre is alive with activities. I have attached the timetable below. Hopefully there is something in there to suit everyone's interests.

Football with Ollie
Classes 3rd to 6th have finished their football training with Ollie from Cavan GAA.
Each class in our school enjoyed the 4-6 week training programme and we look forward to hopefully continuing this next year.

A huge thank you to Cavan Eagles who very kindly donated a bag of basketballs to our school. This kind donation was greatly accepted by Stephen Duffy on our behalf.

Well done to Aíne Doughty who was awarded "Player of the Year" with Kells Celtic Football Club. She had a great season with them playing for both the U12 and U14 teams.

Cuchulainn’s Ladies Team
The Cuchulainn's ladies football team came into school today to share their big win with the children of Cross. We wish you all the best in your up coming Ulster game.

Our school works in partnership with a wide range of organisations and coaches. They are as follows:

Past active weeks have included a line dancing instructor, karate teacher, basketball instructor, skipping instructor.
Our local GAA club have been very pro active in coaching for Cumann na mBunscol. Although the teams didn't make the semi-finals the boys and girls trained hard and played hard in every game. We are proud of their performances.






Kells swimming pool came to school in May 2019 to cover The Land PAWS (water safety programme) with every class.

After conducting the survey "What clubs are you in?" we discovered there are many activities and clubs in our surrounding area. They are as follows GAA/ Swimming/ Athletics/ Gymnastics/ Dancing/ Rugby/ Soccer/ Camogie/ Hurling/ Basketball/ Horseriding/ Kart racing/ Karate/ Boxing/ Kickboxing/ Golf/ Parkour.
Cavan Sports Partnership also informed us of the Parkrun in Deerpark Forest, Virginia every Saturday morning @ 9:30am and physical family fun a HSE initiative in Bailieborough which can be found on Facebook.

FEBRUARY 2022
We have been very busy working with the Irish Winter Olympic team and travelling to Beijing.
The children have loved tracking their activities throughout the week to log in exchange for kilometres. The PE challenge went do really well with 3rd and 4th class.






During Our School Active Week 2022 Jon from Virginia Rugby Club taught each class a few rugby skills and played games.
